Fall legislative session last chance for premier to prove she is up to the job: Macdonald
After two years of dysfunctional government, almost entirely absorbed in pushing the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) on the people of British Columbia, it is time for the BC Liberals to get back to the business of governing the province, says Columbia River – Revelstoke MLA Norm Macdonald.
This Legislative session, which is set to begin on October 3and continue through November, will be the first extended period of time that Premier Christy Clark will be in the Legislature since her election as Leader of the BC Liberals in February.
“It’s been more than half a year since Premier Clark took over and we’ve not really seen anything substantial that indicates what she is going to do to put the province back on track,” Macdonald said in a statement issued Thursday. “In fact, what we’ve seen so far has been pretty dismal, especially the much touted jobs plan.
“After a summer of bungling and indecision, this Legislative session is really the last chance for the premier to prove that she is up to the job.”
Macdonald has laid out a number of initiatives and policy ideas that would make a positive difference in the lives of his constituents.
“It is time, for instance, for the provincial government to make a long-term commitment to complete the needed upgrades to the Trans Canada Highway. It’s not enough to just put up the signs saying that you are going to do the upgrade, you actually have to commit the money necessary to finish the project.
“The premier has a responsibility to layout a clear fiscal plan that provides British Columbians with fair taxation and the quality public services that they deserve.”
It’s too too bad that MacDonald and the NDP have not yet climbed the moral stairs that others have done for years, and that is give a clear direction about their intentions.
Do folks remember when, in the last election, when the candidates were asked questions as to their intentions and attitudes about any one issue – by the different new outlets – that MacDonald very seldom had an answer?
Does any one remember how the NDP and MacDonald have yet to lay out any fiscal plan for the province in ” opposition ” to the governing body of the last number of years?
Does any one remember how the NDP and MacDonald has done nothing but complain about every thing and oppose every thing on idelogical grounds yet have zero alternative solutions for any single issue?
I and many others remember.
