Mounties probe a family-killing collision

RCMP and the B.C Coroners Service are investigating a two-vehicle collision that killed a mother and her two daughters on the Trans-Canada west of the Rogers Pass Summit.

The collision was originally reported at 5:10 pm PST Wednesday December 21. The collision scene was approximately six kilometers west of the Rogers Pass Summit.

A statement from the RCMP on Thursday, December 22, said the collision involved two vehicles, a 2003 Suzuki SUV and a commercial tractor trailer unit.

Investigation revealed the Suzuki was westbound on a straight stretch of roadway when the vehicle for unknown reason crossed into the eastbound lane and was impacted by the eastbound commercial tractor trailer unit. The impact of the collision was so severe that all three female occupants of the vehicle were deceased immediately.

The next-of-kin notifications have been completed. At the request of the family the names of the deceased will not be released by the RCMP.

The RCMP can confirm the three deceased are the 36-year-old mother and her six- and four-year -ld daughters who were traveling from Calgary to their home in Burnaby. The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured in the crash and is from the Lower Mainland. The trucking company is out of Langley.

The investigation into this collision is ongoing and there is no other information available at this time.

The RCMP are requesting that anyone who may have witnessed this collision and have not spoken with police to contact the Trans-Canada East Traffic Services Unit in Revelstoke at 250-837-5255.

Just got a phone call at EZ Rock from the best friend of the family involved in the crash. There was a dog travelling in the car as well that hasn’t been found. Toffee is her name and she looks like a yellow lab, but is a rotweiller/pitbull cross and is VERY friendly. She may be wandering around out at Roger’s Pass. If you find her, Animal Control has the contact’s details. Let’s hope something positive can come of this. Be safe Revelstoke and hug a loved one this holiday season!
